Watchdog groups call review at US nuclear lab ‘sham’ process

Posted by in categories: government, military, policy

The U.S. government is planning to review the environmental effects of operations at one of the nation’s prominent nuclear weapons laboratories, but its notice issued Friday leaves out federal goals to ramp up production of plutonium cores used in the nation’s nuclear arsenal.

The National Nuclear Security Administration said the review—being done to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act—will look at the potential environmental effects of alternatives for operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory for the next 15 years.

That work includes preventing the spread and use of nuclear weapons worldwide and other projects related to national security and global stability, the notice said.

“Portrait (He Knew)” was released in 1977 on the album Point Of Know Return

It was clearly about Albert Einstein although not a lot of people seemed to be aware of the fact. It was a great song for a video, and one of my favorite on this particular album, the other’s being “Nobody Home”, “Closet Chronicles”, and “Dust In The Wind”.

Point of Know Return was HUGE in 1978! I remember listening to it over and over and over…loved the many instrumental breaks and solos.

Nuclear War Would Cause a Global Famine and Kill Billions, Rutgers-Led Study Finds

Posted by in categories: climatology, existential risks, military

We might all starve.

Researchers from Rutgers University calculated the possible effects of nuclear wars. The result shows that a nuclear war between countries such as Russia and USA could kill billions and cause starvation within two years.

It also demonstrates that large deficits would arise in imports due to the depletion of crops.

US shocked: china tests MOST DANGEROUS military weapon.

China’s FOBS can go around the planet at hypersonic speeds to wipe out entire cities — and the United States is very worried. FOBS stands for Fractional Orbital Bombardment System — a weapon that goes into orbit and deorbits at the right time to deal maximum damage to targets, making even the most advanced missile-defense systems almost useless. This is no casual, baseless project. The US Military has reason to believe the FOBS was designed to be used against them and they’re not about to be silent about it. In this video, we shed light on this punch-for-punch dangerous arms race going on between two of the world’s most powerful nations.

Researchers discover unique material design for brain-like computations

Posted by in categories: computing, military, neuroscience

Over the past few decades, computers have seen dramatic progress in processing power; however, even the most advanced computers are relatively rudimentary in comparison with the complexities and capabilities of the human brain.

Researchers at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory say this may be changing as they endeavor to design computers inspired by the human brain’s neural structure.

As part of a collaboration with Lehigh University, Army researchers have identified a design strategy for the development of neuromorphic materials.
