PayPal Mafia’s Keith Rabois agrees with Elon Musk on the importance of returning to the office: ‘The ambitious people want to work IRL’

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, Elon Musk

Rabois’s pushback to remote work comes at a time when many workers are pushing to continue having the option, and companies who allowed it during the pandemic are deciding what their policies will look like moving forward. According to ADP Research Institute, 64% of workers surveyed said they would consider looking for another job if their employer asked them to return full-time.

While Protocol talked to other investors who argued that asking workers to return to the office shouldn’t be a big deal, not everyone agrees, and the debate has spilled over onto Twitter, giving the public a glimpse into how executives and investors view the issue.

In a response to Rabois’s tweet about only funding IRL startups, Jeremy Stoppelmann, cofounder and CEO of Yelp, tweeted that Rabois’s tweet was the “Equivalent to ‘looking to fund startups running Windows95.’”.

US General credits Musk’s Starlink with ‘Destroying Vladimir Putin’s information campaign’

Posted by in categories: business, Elon Musk, internet, military, satellites

Elon Musk and his Starlink Internet service, according to a US general, are responsible for keeping Ukrainian communication links up despite Russian attempts to shut them down. In a June 8 Politico piece, Brig. Gen. Steve Butow, head of the space portfolio at the Defense Innovation Unit, the Pentagon’s Silicon Valley tech outpost, said: “The strategic consequence is that it completely devastated [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s media campaign.”

“He has never been able to quiet (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy to this day.” Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, and his SpaceX firm are working on a satellite network and Earthbound receivers that will beam the Internet throughout the world, reaching locations that previously couldn’t access high-speed internet. The messages going between Earth’s receivers and a “constellation” of satellites flying approximately 342 miles above the surface, according to the business, are quicker than fiber-optic networks and can reach more distant parts of the world.

Musk sent the equipment to Ukraine in March after authorities there requested them after Russia’s incursion on February 24, according to the Washington Post. “While you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! Russian missiles strike Ukrainian civilians while your rockets successfully land from space ” Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister, sent Musk a tweet on February 26. ” We request that you deliver Starlink stations to Ukraine and address sane Russians to stand.”

Elon Musk says humans could eventually download their brains into robots — and Grimes thinks Jeff Bezos would do it

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, mobile phones, robotics/AI

“I think it is possible,” Musk, 50, recently told Insider. “Yes, we could download the things that we believe make ourselves so unique. Now, of course, if you’re not in that body anymore, that is definitely going to be a difference, but as far as preserving our memories, our personality, I think we could do that.”

By Musk’s account, such technology will be a gradual evolution from today’s forms of computer memory. “Our memories are stored in our phones and computers with pictures and video,” he said. “Computers and phones amplify our ability to communicate, enabling us to do things that would have been considered magical … We’ve already amplified our human brains massively with computers.”

“Firehose” of raw data: Twitter agrees to provide complete ‘Fake Accounts’ data to Elon Musk

Posted by in categories: cybercrime/malcode, Elon Musk, law, robotics/AI

According to multiple news reports, Twitter plans to give Elon Musk access to its “firehose” of raw data on hundreds of millions of daily tweets in an effort to speed up the Tesla billionaire’s $44 billion acquisition of the social media platform. The data-sharing agreement was not confirmed by the lawyers involved in the deal. Musk was silent on Twitter, despite having previously expressed his displeasure with various aspects of the deal.

Twitter declined to comment on the reports, pointing to a statement released on Monday in which the company stated that it is continuing to “cooperate” and share information with Musk, who in April entered into a legally binding agreement to purchase Twitter, claims that the transaction cannot go forward until the firm discloses more information on the frequency of bogus accounts on its network. He claims, without providing evidence, that Twitter has grossly underestimated the number of “spam bots” on its platform, which are automated accounts that typically promote scams and misinformation.

On Monday, the Attorney General of the State of Texas, Ken Paxton, said that his office will be investigating “possible false reporting” of bot activity on Twitter as part of an inquiry against Twitter for allegedly failing to disclose the scale of its spam bot and fake account activity. According to a source familiar with the situation, Twitter’s plan to give Musk full access to the firehose was first reported by the Washington Post. According to other reports, the billionaire may only have limited access.
