William M. Pentland, J.D.
William M. Pentland, J.D. is Senior Energy Systems Analyst at Pace
University.
Bill began his tenure at the Pace Energy and Climate Center in early
2010.
Equipped with an extensive background in energy finance, environmental
trading and commercial law, he focuses on the full spectrum of
market, regulatory, and policy issues pertaining to distributed
generation applications like combined heat-and-power, district heating,
and small-scale renewable energy systems. In addition, as the Center’s
Senior Energy Systems Analyst, he promotes the adoption of a
“systems” perspective across the Center’s diverse portfolio of research
projects in an effort to enhance cross-sector collaboration and
encourage comprehensive market and policy strategies.
Prior to joining PECC, he cofounded Maximum Generation, LLC,
a commercial-finance firm based in Darien, Connecticut, which focuses on
innovative financing vehicles for small-scale CHP and DG projects in the
commercial and institutional sectors. After graduating from Stanford
Law School in 2003, he served as a law clerk in the Northern
District Court of California for the Honorable D. Lowell Jensen.
Subsequently, he practiced law in New York City for a number of years at
Paul Weiss Rifkind Garrison & Wharton, LLP and Jenner & Block, LLP.
After attending Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism,
Bill worked as a staff writer at Forbes where he wrote about energy
and environmental issues. He has also written about energy
and environmental issues for The Nation, Mother Jones, and several other
publications.
