Michael Benjamin
Michael Benjamin is the Founder at Baxis Advisors and The Science Mic and Research Associate at Advanced Neural Biosciences where he is performing a meta-analysis on cryogenic processes for tissue preservation, investigating the use of nanobots in tissue repair, and researching the brain connectome and neuronal repair options.
Mike has more than 20 years of experience in physics and engineering as he worked on multiple projects in aerospace and defense, with extensive experience focused on process improvement, rapid problem solving, and innovation of systems and technology.
Founded in 2020, at Baxis Advisors, Mike specializes in technical, operational, and organizational process improvement services to clients in the space industry. They are experts in mission management and they also provide individual areas of expertise of team members, such as orbit management, technical engineering, participation in engineering review boards, leading technical and team process improvement events, and helping with innovation initiatives.
In 2015, Mike founded The Science Mic, where he has been providing the latest news on scientific research and technology covering an extensive range of fields, from physics to artificial intelligence, and bioengineering.
In April of 2019, Mike joined Advanced Neural Biosciences as Research Associate. ANB Research is a biomedical research company located in Portland, Oregon and Brooklyn, New York. They work on low-temperature technologies to preserve central nervous tissue and whole brains for brain banking, pharmacological drug discovery, and the study of neurodegenerative diseases. They are one of the few research companies in the world that conducts research into cryopreservation of the central nervous system. They also closely collaborate with Alcor on cryopreservation and a variety of research projects.
Between 2018 and 2021, Mike was a Leadership Team Member at the Singularity University in New York and also Coorganizer at the XPrize Foundation Think Tank in New York between 2012 and 2015.
In 2016, he founded and was the COO at AI Health, where they designed the “One healthcare app to rule them all”, where the idea arose from a medical emergency while overseas. Their app design used an AI assistant to guide patients through their lifelong healthcare journey, and the functionality included maintenance of overall well-being, prevention of physical and mental health issues, and artificial intelligence-based diagnostics and treatment planning.
In 2018, he joined Neota Logic as Solution Architect, where he built a client application using Neota Logic’s tools and AI-powered platform to automate expertise and workflow.
Between September 2019 and March 2020, Mike worked as Analyst at NewSpace Global, where he performed research and analysis of companies in the NewSpace sector.
Mike graduated in 2003 when he earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Physics from the City University of New York-Hunter College. During his time there, he was also Research Assistant where he performed synchrotron-based photoemission and X-ray absorption spectroscopy to study fundamental and applied problems in condensed matter physics and materials science and experiments on X-ray beamlines at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratories.
As Intern and Research Assistant, Mike joined NASA GSFC between 2002 and 2003, where he studied the energetics of accelerated electrons and the Neupert Effect in solar flares using the spectroscopic imaging capabilities of the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI).
After his graduation and his work at Hunter College, Mike joined Lockheed Martin in 2004, where he stayed for almost six years. He went from Associate Member Engineering Staff to Full-time Senior Systems Engineer on Orbit Analysis and later became Mission Analyst.
In 2010, he became Staff Systems Engineer on Space and Ground Systems at Vencore (now part of Perspecta) where he was a principal team member. Perspecta is bringing a diverse set of capabilities to U.S. government customers in defense, intelligence, civilian, and health care markets.
Mike has been a cancer survivor since 2008, and has been a scleroderma patient since 2009. He regularly speaks and provides workshops about the disease and about physics, engineering, and technology and about the disease and related issues such as healthcare and pharmaceuticals. His scleroderma journey is often an inspirational story he shares to organizations and when providing workshops.
