Mark Smalley
is
Founder of
Betanomics.asia and R1.my.
Betanomics is an Asia-wide project to help envision, create, and sustain
an online decentralized economy throughout the region and beyond.
Their team is a small collective of open source admirers and economic
enthusiasts who are fascinated by digital currencies and the potential
they bring for new opportunities. Their mission is to help people
exchange goods and services more freely than ever thought possible
— and to do it
with complete transparency.
R1 DOT MY Sdn Bhd is a newly formed company that was incorporated in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in January of 2012. They have been working on
several
highly disruptive MongoDB (NoSQL) web-based products for 12 months prior
to their incorporation and are now seeking investment that will help
them to bring these products to market. These products include MongoPress and MongoKong.
Mark has been living in Malaysia since 1997 surrounded by finance from a
young age through family ties to equity fund management and other
financial web-based services and solutions. He’s been a freelancer,
founder, and innovator. He is most passionate about the ideals of
Open Source technologies, and evangelizes their use and philosophical
implications at every opportunity he gets.
He started with web technologies from a designer’s perspective and
considers user experience to be extremely important, which may have led
him to win an award at Mongo SV in Silicon Valley for MongoPress; the
NoSQL CMS. With over 5 years of experience in the financial sector and
15 years of design and development experience building custom made
software for banks and other institutions, he is finally in a position
to
share his knowledge. Over the past year or so he has been a passionate
supporter of community growth, leading to the organization of the
Kuala
Lumpur MongoDB User Group — as well as
NoSQL Asia.
More recently, Mark has grown incredibly interested in cryptographic
currencies and has helped to establish Betanomics.asia in order to
promote and education in the region.
