Professor Jezreel Larry Caunca
Jezreel Larry Caunca is Assistant Professor at Northwestern University, Ambassador at SSEAYP, and Futures Education Specialist at the UNESCO Chair on Anticipatory Governance and Regenerative Cities. He is a youth advocate and serves as the Foresight Coordinator at Northwestern University’s Philippine Center for Foresight Education and Innovation Research Institute.
As a Futures Education Specialist, Jezreel is deeply passionate about integrating futures thinking and anticipatory governance into education, particularly for the younger generation. His role with the first-ever UNESCO Chair in the Philippines gives him the platform to champion these transformative ideas.
At Northwestern University, where he teaches Futures Thinking and Political Science, Jezreel sees firsthand the potential in students to become futures-literate leaders who can navigate the complex challenges of tomorrow.
At Northwestern, Jezreel founded the Youth for Foresight and Regenerative Sustainable Tomorrows (Y-FOREST). It has been a personal milestone for him, as it allows him to actively engage with young people in the Philippines and the Global South, empowering them to adopt regenerative thinking and foresight practices. Participating in global forums like the ASEAN Youth Economic Forum and the SSEAYP has reinforced Jezreel’s belief in the importance of youth in shaping a sustainable future.
The Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) is based on the respective Joint Statements issued in January 1974 between Japan and Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Brunei (1985), Vietnam (1996), Laos and Myanmar (1998), and Cambodia (2000) joined later after admission to ASEAN as official members of the association. The Government of Japan carries out the program with the active participation and cooperation of these 10 Southeast Asian countries.
Jezreel earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government in 2023 from Northwestern University. He is currently working on his Juris Doctorate in Law from Northwestern University.
Jezreel’s journey from Magna Cum Laude graduate in Political Science to futures literacy workshop facilitator extends beyond academic accomplishments. As a member of the Association of Professional Futurists and the World Futures Studies Federation, his focus lies in promoting futures literacy and sustainable development. Jezreel’s commitment to these goals is evident in his work, which spans from classrooms to international platforms and aims to empower future generations of changemakers.
Previously, Jazreel was the President of the Association of College Editors and the NWU Supreme Student Council between 2019 and 2023. Watch NWUnite 2023.
