Claudio Maccone, Ph.D.
is Technical Director of the
International Academy of Astronautics for
Scientific Space Exploration.

In 1997 he was elected “Corresponding Member” of the
International
Academy of Astronautics (IAA) in the Class of the Engineering Sciences.
In 2001 he was elected “Full Member” of the
International Academy
of Astronautics and
the Asteroid 11264 was named “Claudiomaccone” in his honor by
the International Astronomical Union (IAU). In 2002 he was awarded
the Giordano Bruno Award by the SETI League, “for his efforts to
establish a radio observatory on the far side of the Moon”. The League
considered it notable that Claudio was the first Italian to win the
award, which is named after Italian monk Giordano Bruno.
Claudio earned his BSc in Physics at the University of Turin, Italy in
1972 and his MSc in Physics at the University of Turin, Italy in 1974.
He earned his Ph.D. at the Department of Mathematics of the University
of London King’s College in 1980.
His thesis embodied the Karhunen-Loeve eigenfunctions of the power-like
time-rescaled Brownian motion, later published in several papers.
